FAYETTE CO., Ill. - Another car-v-pedestrian crash has sent a St. Elmo teen to a Springfield hospital.

The accident occurred earlier this evening (Tuesday, October 9) at approximately 7:06 p.m. about a mile north of St. Elmo in Fayette County.

Illinois State Police report that the pedestrian, a 17-year-old male, was walking southbound in the northbound lane on Fayette County Road 2150 East. A brown 2001 Chevrolet pickup truck was traveling northbound and had just come over a hill crest. The driver, a 16-year-old male from St. Elmo who had a 16-year-old female passenger (also of St. Elmo) with him, stated he observed the pedestrian, but was unable to stop to avoid a collision. The front of the pickup struck the pedestrian.

The pedestrian was transported by Rural Med to the St. Elmo High School, where he was airlifted by Air Evac to St. Joh's Hospital in Springfield. There's been no further information on his condition.

The pedestrian, however, was cited for Improper Walking on Roadway.
