(but....SAFE is okay)

CARBONDALE, Ill. - Building on the accepted science that climate change is real and caused by human activity, the film "BURNED: Are Trees the New Coal?” will be showing at the Varsity Center for the Arts on Wednesday October 10, in Carbondale. The movie takes a hard look at the latest false solution to humanity’s vast energy appetite. It tells the story of how woody biomass has become the alternative-energy savior for the power-generation industry and of the people and parties who are both promoting and fighting its adoption and use.

“If we truly want to mitigate climate change,” Tom Wessels, Maine Terrestrial Ecologist, "then we've got to make sure our forests are storing a lot of carbon.”

Using interviews with experts, activists, and citizens, along with verité-style footage shot across the US, EU and the UK, the film interweaves the science of climate change, the escalating energy-policy disputes, the dynamics of forest ecology, the industry practices, and the actions of activists and citizens who are working to protect their own health, their communities, the forest, and the planet’s climate. Woven together, the various stories present an intimate and visceral account of a timely, critical, yet somewhat unknown, national and international controversy.

The movie is sponsored by Southern Illinoisans Against Fracturing Our Environment (SAFE) and will be followed by discussion about current project proposals on the Shawnee National Forest and upcoming trainings available for concerned citizens to attend. The Varsity is located at 418 South Illinois Avenue in Carbondale. Doors open at 6:30, movie begins at 7 p.m.

(Jack note: We here at Disclosure do not support the notion of "climate change" [most people know it as 'weather'] as there's absolutely NO empirical evident that humans are changing the climate. Further, 'scientists' of all people should know: People breathe oxygen and put out carbon dioxide, trees breathe carbon dioxide and put out oxygen. We're not in danger of losing trees. If anything, the existing trees should be thriving and flourishing from all this human-created CO2...yet that's not their premise. So it's ridiculous, and we don't support it....but we DO support SAFE, and so we are placing this presser here for their sake. Go see the film and do a little bit of research. You'll see we're right.)
