FAYETTE CO., Ill. - An attempt to pass a combine Saturday created a collision that got two drivers cited with two traffic infractions each.
Illinois State Police in District 12 Effingham said the situation developed yesterday afternoon (Saturday, September 29) at a few minutes before 1 p.m.
Preliminary investigative details indicate that a red Ford pickup being driven by James Williams, 76, of Brownstown, was eastbound on U.S. Route 40 near 925th Street in Fayette county, attempting to pass the combine.
The pickup pulled out into the lane in which a juvenile from St. Elmo (not otherwise identified as to age or gender) was driving, and Williams' pickup struck the tan Chevy pickup the juvenile was driving. ISP said the juvenile was attempting to pass two vehicles and a combine on a curve, and so it was not a head-on collision.
The two vehicles struck, and Williams' went off the roadway into the field.
Both Williams and the juvenile were cited for Improper Lane Usage and Improper Passing. Apparently no one was injured.
