CLAY CO., Ill. - A man from Chatham, Illinois (up near Springfield) was the driver and single occupant of a vehicle that went off the road this morning and into an appropriately-named creek, after which he was cited for DUI and speeding.
Illinois State Police in District 12 Effingham advise that the wreck occurred at 7:30 a.m. this morning, Sunday, September 30.
Preliminary investigative details indicate that a red 2009 Ford F-150 pickup being driven by Randall Gregory, 35, of Chatham, was northbound on Edgewood Road (just south of Clay County Road 265E, four miles south of Edgewood) and, according to ISP, was driving too fast for conditions.
Gregory lost control around a curve, left the roadway and traveled approximately 300 feet to the west side of the road.
The pickup then traveled down an embankment, coming to rest in Dismal Creek.
Gregory was transported by Clay County Ambulance to Clay County Hospital in Flora. He was later cited for DUI-Alcohol, Driving Too Fast for Conditions, and No Seatbelt.
