ODIN, Ill. - The county that has turned out an inordinately-high number of guys and gals charged with sex offenses in the last decade or so has produced another one.
Earlier this week (Tuesday, September 18), authorities took Delbert Trainor, 47 of Odin in Marion County, into custody on multiple Class X charges of felony Predatory Criminal Sexual Assault as well as a number of charges indicating the same but of a victim under the age of 13.
In all, he's charged with nine Class X felonies, three of them from this year, three of them from 2016, and three of them from 2003 (in Illinois, there's now no statute of limitations on Class X child sex crimes).
The most recent incident is reported to have happened September 1, 2018, which investigation apparently lead to other alleged victims either coming forward or being discovered.
At a hearing on Thursday, Sept. 20, Marion County State's Attorney Bill Milner said that the alleged acts were perpetrated against five different children.
Trainor was at the hearing in a wheelchair (published reports don't indicate whether that's been a long-term, actual thing, or whether he was afforded the opportunity to look pathetic in court by claiming he "couldn't walk or stand" and that claim forced the jail to wheel him in; stranger things have happened). At Thursday's hearing, online records indicate that a "bond" was set in the amount of $500,000. This is likely actually bail, not bond, as the bail on a $500k cash bond would be five million dollars, and that's unlikely.
If everyone is misspeaking and this is actually bail (which happens far too often for our comfort), that means that his bond is $50,000 (ten percent), still an unreachable amount under most circumstances for a guy in a wheelchair.
However, should he be able to make bond, he's been ordered to have no contact with any of the alleged victims, as well as no contact with anyone under the age ago 18.
Over the past decade or so, Marion County has had quite the number of guys charged as sex offenders, more so per capita than most other communities in Disclosure's 24-county coverage area. It's not number 1; but it HAS been number 2 in past years. Here's the link to the article about that revealing fact.
Logan Thompson, Darin Brandt, Jared Peoples and Kenneth Ward, Terry Mulvaney. Justin Atteberry, Lisa Tate, James Evilsizer, Sian Kuester, Shawn Lyberger and Kelly Ebmeyer are but a few of the sex offenders that come to mind regarding what we've covered in the past decade coming out of that county...yet people continue to whine and fuss and claim there isn't a problem.
There apparently very much IS a problem in Marion...and a lot of the time, when this kind of thing is rampant, it indicates a network of sorts where such behavior is not just overlooked but encouraged. Whether there's an underground child sex situation in Marion County remains unknown, likely because if such a thing is going on, some public officials are also involved...and they don't want to break up the party, so they're selective in who they bust. Hopefully, that's not the case here, and hopefully more perps, both alleged and convicted, will turn up others so that this can be brought under control.
In the meantime....protect your kids. There's obviously a problem in Marion County.
