FAYETTE CO., Ill. - A teenage girl from Fillmore was behind the wheel of a car that crashed into another driver from Fillmore...which crash sent the teen and her also-teenage-passenger to an area hospital for treatment.
Illinois State Police in District 12 Effingham said that they crash occurred this evening (Thursday, September 13) at 4:24 p.m.
Preliminary investigative details indicate that a 2009 Pontiac being driven by the 17-year-old female was traveling northbound on Illinois Route 185 just south of Fayette County Road 1800 North (two miles north of Vandalia; with her was a 16-year-old juvenile passenger.
A 2011 Dodge being driven by Joshua McCarty, 35, also of Fillmore, was on Route 185 at CR 1800 North, stopped behind a vehicle waiting to turn left; with McCarty were two juvenile passengers, an 11-year-old male and a 1-year-old female. The teen driver, said ISP, failed to reduce speed and rear-ended McCarty's vehicle in the roadway.
The ensuing collision sent the two teens in the Pontiac to Fayette County Hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries.
The teen driver was cited for Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident.
