WHITE CO., Ill. - A truck driver from Kentucky, perhaps learning from examples of predecessors who've used blackouts, illnesses and fatigued driving as an excuse for whatever might really have happened, was nevertheless cited for exactly that thing after a crash on Interstate 64 last night.
Illinois State Police in District 19 Carmi reported that the wreck occurred at 8 p.m. last night, Tuesday, September 4, 2018.
According to the preliminary traffic crash investigation, the driver of a white 2018 Volvo truck tractor/semi-trailer combination, Ahmed M. Mohamud, 28, of Louisville, Kentucky, was eastbound on I-64 approaching mileost 130, when he reported he started feeling ill.
The truck tractor/semi-trailer left the south side of the roadway and traveled down a ditch embankment before coming to rest on the shoulder of the roadway. Initially transported by ambulance from the crash scene, Mohamud was then transferred by Air Evac to a regional hospital.
An ISP Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officer (CVEO) was assigned to the crash investigation. In addition, Little Wabash Fire Protection District, White County Ambulance Service, and Rick’s Towing assisted ISP District 19 at the crash scene.
Mohamud was cited for Driving Ill or Fatigued, Improper Lane Usage, Failure to Wear a Seat Belt, and Failure to Keep a Logbook.
