MARION CO., Ill. - An elderly gentleman lost his life in a two-vehicle collision that occurred after he failed to stop at an intersection stop sign, this according to Illinois State Police.
ISP said the crash occurred last night (Saturday, August 25) at 9:16 p.m.
Preliminary investigative details indicate that a silver 2000 Lincoln passenger car being driven by William F. Borchrding, 91, of Iuka, was southbound on Omega Road approximately a mile north of Iuka. ISP said Borcherding failed to yield at the stop intersection of Omega Road at U.S. Route 50 and pulled into the path of a black 2004 Kia passenger car being driven westbound on 50 by Megan D. Hays, 32, of Salem.
Hays' Kia struck Borcherding's Lincoln in the driver's side door; the impact resulted in fatal injuries for Borcherding.
A passenger in his vehicle, Erma Rose Borcherding, 83 of Iuka, was airlifted to St. Louis University Hospital. Hays, as well, was airlifted to the same hospital, and a passenger in her vehicle, an 8-year-old female also of Salem, was airlifted to Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital in St. Louis.
There have been no citations issued in the collision.
