WILLIAMSON CO., Ill. - Richard L. Komasinski, 48, of rural Marion, was convicted of Criminal Sexual Assault by a jury of his peers late Thursday at the Williamson County Courthouse in Marion.
The trial stemmed from charges filed in August of 2015, at the time, alleging that Komasinski had committed the assault at his home. The victim was unable to give consent to the sexual act.
Komasinski was convicted by a jury on two counts of Criminal Sexual Assault, both Class 1 felonies, and will be sentenced at a later date. The trial began Tuesday (August 14). The jury deliberated for approximately 34 minutes on Thursday afternoon before returning their guilty verdict.
The investigation was handled by the Marion Police Department.
“These are always some of the most difficult cases we have to take to trial," State’s Attorney Brandon Zanotti said. "I commend the jury on their decision, and hope that this guilty verdict brings the victim some sense of justice. I also thank the Marion Police Department for their great investigative work, and Assistant State’s Attorney Lisa Irvin for all of her assistance on this case.”
