This is something we MUST do every year, several days during the season, several hours out of the day:
Yep. Blackberry picking. It has to be done or Ang has a fit. “Blackberries are going to waste. BUGS are eating MY BLACKBERRIES. If we don’t pick them, the DEER are going to eat them all and find all our good patches!!!!”
She knows as well as you do that the deer, bugs, and other critters are going to find the berries, regardless of if we have the entire staff and all the children and grandchildren out there traipsing across the acres all day, every day of the season. But I think it’s a competition to her (you know how dangerously competitive Ang is and has always been) to pick as many giant wild blackberries as she can before the critters eat them up. We got a gallon last Wednesday; today, two and a half. They’re just not ripening quickly.
The rest of the staff is busy with courthouse crawls today and tomorrow; tell em hi for us from the berry patch when you see them.
