WILLIAMSON/FRANKLIN COs., Ill. - The man who is accused of robbing a bank in Benton earlier today has been identified and is in jail in Marion.
Arthur Bays, 81, is the man who was the subject of this earlier report of the State Bank of Whittington being robbed earlier this morning, Thursday, July 26, in Benton in neighboring Franklin County.
Bays was arrested at his residence in Lamar Hi-Rise, a housing building in Marion. Our sources have advised that someone from that facility turned him in.
He's being held in the Williamson County Jail, our correspondent in Marion has confirmed. We have no information on his formal charges or bond; nor whether this will be a state or a federal charge. When we learn more, we'll post.
