CLAY CO.—We’ve just learned that long-time Clay County Sheriff Jim Sulsberger announced his retirement last night.

Sulsberger has been one of the best sheriffs to work with in the 20-plus counties we cover regularly. We’re going to miss him.
No immediate word on who will be stepping into the position; Sulsberger told us that a name will be presented by the Democrat Party to the county board tonight, and board chairman Sue Petit then has 60 days to announce who will replace Sulsberger.
We wish him luck in all his endeavors…and we hope that his successor will be as great to work with as Jim has been since 2005!
