WILLIAMSON CO., Ill. - Williamson County State's Attorney Brandon Zanotti has announced another successful plea and sentencing of a drug mover in Marion.
Zanotti said that on June 5, Lenard L. Duncan, 34, of Marion pled guilty to one count of possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver, a class 1 felony, stemming from a February 2018 arrest. On June 21, Duncan was sentenced to seven years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
On February 2, 2018, Duncan was arrested after multiple cocaine delivery transactions were coordinated by the Southern Illinois Enforcement Group (SIEG). Assistant State’s Attorney Jerri Adams led the prosecution of this case.
In addition to seven years in DOC, Duncan will be under mandatory supervised release for two year following his release.
“With methamphetamine and opioids controlling headlines these days we often forget about some of the less lethal controlled substances," Zanotti said. "Cocaine-based drug use is still very much a problem in Southern Illinois and one of the region’s dealers is now out of business. This was great work as always by SIEG. Their work often goes unnoticed but they are putting a significant dent in the region’s drug trade.”
