EFFINGHAM CO., Ill. - A motorcycle accident very early this morning in Altamont got the rider sent to the hospital, then cited for DUI.
Illinois State Police in District 12 Effingham advise that the accident took place at 12:01 a.m. this morning, Tuesday, June 19.
Preliminary investigation shows that a dark blue 2014 Harley-Davidson Street Glide being driven by Marek Woronowicz, 56, of Effingham, was traveling Interstate 70 eastbound at the milepost 82 entrance ramp. Woronowicz stated that he took the turn on the ramp too fast and left the roadway to the right, coming to rest on the embankment.
Woronowicz was transported from the scene by Abbott Ambulance to St. Anthony's Hospital in Effingham.
He was later cited by ISP for DUI-Alcohol, Improper Lane Usage, Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident, and No Valid Insurance.
