PALESTINE, Ill. - An incident Friday afternoon got a 17-year-old juvenile sent to detention, according to Palestine Police Chief Jeff Besing.

Besing said he was called to a residence at approximately 1:45 p.m. yesterday (Friday, June 15), in the 400 block of W. Grand Prairie Street, Palestine in reference to a domestic situation involving a male juvenile threatening to do bodily harm to his mother. Upon Chief Besing’s arrival, he was advised that the 17-year-old male juvenile had stolen his mother’s vehicle and had locked her out of the house.

At approximately 2:10 p.m., Chief Besing was advised that the male juvenile had gone to a relative’s residence in Russellville, down in Lawrence County. Chief Besing transported the victim/mother to Russellville and took the juvenile into custody without incident. The mother gave Chief Besing permission to transport the juvenile back to Crawford County where he was taken to Crawford Memorial ER for evaluation, and then transported to the Crawford County Jail where he was charged with Theft of a Motor Vehicle, Class 2 Felony; Unlawful Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, Class 2 Felony; and Assault, Class A Misdemeanor.

The male juvenile is being detained by the Juvenile Probation Officer Stevi Holscher and will be sent to a juvenile detention center.
