WILLIAMSON CO., Ill. - A couple of visitors to Lake of Egypt campgrounds had a horrible weekend this past weekend, as you can see by the accompanying photos.
These photos are post-accident after an alleged hit-and-run at LoE on Friday, June 8. Our Williamson County correspondent spoke with the victims (who will not be named for now), who stated that the driver of the vehicle that hit their camper had been identified as Craig L. Ellis, 32, of Marion.
One of the victims said that Ellis was driving the white truck pictured here, but left in a white SUV when someone arrived to the scene of the crash and picked him up (sources indicate that he later turned himself in.)
When the victim called the state's attorney's office, she was told Ellis was going to be charged with Leaving the Scene of an Accident or Crime, Driving While License Suspended, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and other pending charges that hadn't been determined yet.
Electronic records were, at the time of this report, showing only the Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
More as we get it; be watching.
