FAYETTE CO., Ill. - A Mulberry Grove man was seriously injured after his vehicle went off Highway 40 in Fayette County not far from his home town.
The single-vehicle accident occurred at 9:18 p.m. last night, Sunday, June 3, said Illinois State Police in Effingham who worked the wreck.
Preliminary investigative details indicate that a 2001 Ford Explorer being driven by Derek William Spradling, 28, from Mulberry Grove, was traveling westbound on U.S. Route 40 near Fayette County Road 100 East, two miles east of Mulberry Grove.
Spradling, said ISP, lost control of his vehicle traveling off the north side of Route 40, then back across the roadway to the south side of 40, where the vehicle overturned multiple times.
Spradling was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. He was flown by Air Evac to Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis with serious injuries.
He has been cited with Improper Lane Usage, Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident, and Failure to Wear a Seatbelt.
