Donald Long

CARMI, Ill. - Carmi police report that a couple of traffic stops in town yesterday made a dent in the local outstanding warrants.

The first such situation arose at 11:49 a.m. yesterday morning, when Donald L. Long, 47, of Enfield, was arrested during a traffic stop on Plum Street at Kerney Street yesterday (Tuesday, May 29) after the officer on duty recognized Long and knew he was wanted.

The felony warrant was for Unlawful Possession of Another's Debit Card and Theft, being 2018 cases.

Long was taken into custody and remained jailed as of this morning (Wednesday, May 30).

Kevin Pearson

The second incident occurred at 6:37 p.m. at Eckerle Park, where a local individual was taken into custody.

There, police arrested Kevin L. Pearson, 52, of Carmi, but who apparently gets around southern Illinois racking up the traffic tickets, then not bothering with them after he's entered a plea.

Pearson was stopped at the park, and subsequently arrested for Driving While License Suspended, then cited for Operating Uninsured and Illegal Transportation of Alcohol by Driver.

His woes were compounded, however, when the was also served with a warrant out of Crawford County for Failure to Appear on multiple traffic citations he received while up there in October 2016 (all for roughly the same thing: driving suspended, no registration, operating uninsured, toting alcohol...), all of which "Monty" Hartrich (as he's always making deals) dismissed except the driving suspended, which got Pearson on a pay or appear...and which he apparently neglected to pay during his April court date.

Pearson remained locked up in the county jail in Carmi as of this morning.
