WHITE CO.—All involved in a traffic crash on U.S. 45 in White County—the driver, her passenger, and a deer she swerved to miss—are okay this morning…with the exception of may be the girl’s car.
According to state police, last night (Friday, June 7, 2013) at 9:09 p.m., a 16-year-old driver from Norris City, whose name wasn’t released by state police because she’s a juvenile—was northbound on highway 45 approximately a half-mile north of White County Road 1950 North, when a deer entered her lane of travel from the east.
In an attempt to avoid the deer, the driver swerved to the west, causing her to lose control of the vehicle.
The car, a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am, exited the roadway to the west and traveled down an embankment before overturning.
The girl and her passenger, a male juvenile, were both transported by the White County Ambulance Service to Fairfield Memorial Hospital for treatment of minor injuries sustained in the crash, but fortunately, both were wearing their seat belts and avoided any serious injury, according to ISP.
The Pontiac was removed from the scene by Cherry Street Automotive of Carmi; ISP was assisted by Enfield Police, White County Sheriff’s Department and Enfield Fire Department.
There were no citations or charges issued in the crash; but White County hunters are of course encouraged to get out there and get Bambi and Bambi’s family regularly during hunting season in order to avoid such potential tragedies.
